Queen City Ballroom Policies are as follows (we encourage open communication, so please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns):
SAFETY STRATEGIES
See your doctor for a check-up if you have a medical condition, are overweight, are over 40 years of age or haven’t exercised regularly for a long time.
Choose a dance style that is appropriate for you. For example, high impact dance styles that involve jumping and vigorous movements are not appropriate for a person with arthritis.
Wear layers of clothing that you can take off as your body warms up.
Do warm-up stretches or activities before you begin the dance session. Cold muscles are more prone to injury.
Drink plenty of water before, during and after dancing. Only plain water is allowed on the dance floor. No food or beverages may be brought into any venue without the permission of the instructor (see FOOD AND BEVERAGE, below).
Make sure you take sufficient rest between dance sessions. This will minimize muscle soreness or stiffness if you are new to dancing or are not very fit.
Check with Karen that you are holding the correct form.
Cool down after leaving the dance floor.
If returning to dance after an injury, make sure that the injury is fully healed before resuming dance activities.
APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR
Our N-Step venue provides students with high-quality, performance suspended dance floors. In order to maintain these amazing floors for all students to enjoy, N-Step requires DANCE SHOES ONLY on these floors. Non-professional dance shoes that are clean may be acceptable; contact Karen@queencityballroomnh.com before attending your first dance class. Also, please note the following footwear guidelines:
Wear professionally fitted shoes appropriate to the style of dance.
The use of Latin style (open toe, open instep) shoes for smooth dancing is prohibited for safety reasons.
Beginner dancers are strongly cautioned to avoid open toe shoes regardless of dance style, for safety purposes.
Use a specially designed shoe brush to remove wax buildup and debris from the sole of dance shoes before stepping onto the floor to ensure proper traction.
Check the condition of soles frequently and have them replaced when the nap can no longer be restored to a safe condition by brushing.
CELL PHONES
Please do not bring your cell onto the dance floor, as it is a distraction to the entire class. We ask that prior to your lesson, your phone be set to Airplane Mode, or have the ringer volume turned off, or have the phone be turned off completely so the lesson is not interrupted.
If you must use the phone, please do so off dance floor and away from any ongoing class.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS
Cancelled classes will be announced via our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Queen-City-Ballroom-NH/128621020500010.
When there is sufficient advance notice, an email will be sent and a notice posted in RED HOT NEWS, on the QCB website "Home" page.
In the event that a weather or simliar civil emergency forces studio closure, classes will not be rescheduled. The next scheduled class will pick up where the last class left off.
Should the studio remain open during a light snow storm because we deem the roads passable, we regret that no refunds or credit can be given should you choose not to attend.
Any class cancelled by the instructor/studio (other than weather or simliar civil emergency) will be rescheduled at the instructor's convenience. We regret that no credits or refunds will be given if you are unable to attend the rescheduled class.
PRIVATE LESSON/WEDDING DANCE CANCELLATIONS
Queen City Ballroom requires 24 hours notice to cancel private lessons.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are billable at regular rates.
Packaged Private Lessons may be rescheduled "back-to-back" for 80 minute lessons.
The ballroom reserves the right to terminate and refund a private lesson package due to excessive absences, including those with notice. Private Lesson packages do not carry over, and can not be rescheduled or refunded past the expiration date.
Expiration date is "calendar weeks" from the package start date, where "calendar weeks" is the number of lessons purchased.
GROUP CLASSES
Please plan to arrive on time for all classes. Students who join a class that has been in progress for more than 15 minutes disrupt the learning environment, negatively affecting the other students.
Group class students are asked to direct their attention to Karen at all times when she is talking. This helps minimize interruptions in the flow of the class.
CLASS PLACEMENT
Students with previous ballroom dance experience based on a syllabus other than DVIDA and those who need help understanding figure names and how they relate to material previously studied should contact Karen@queencityballroomnh.com prior to attending group classes.
INTERACTIONS WITH STAFF AND STUDENTS
All students are expected to treat each other with respect. Queen City Ballroom reserves the right to terminate attendance privileges in the event of improper behavior.
The ballroom dance environment, for both classes and parties, is one which supports and encourages “mixing” (changing partners) for social and educational purposes. Students are requested, but not required, to change partners in classes.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
The N-Step venue has a kitchen area where you may consume any snacks and/or beverages that you have brought in with you. There is also a vending machine. Only plain water is allowed on the dance floor.
The Londonderry Lion's Club Hall venue allows water bottles and potluck items to be brought into their facility.
The Radisson Hotel venue does not allow any food or beverage brought into their facility.
LOST AND FOUND
Queen City Ballroom cannot be responsible for loss or damage to any personal items. If you believe you have lost an item, please contact the venue you attended for assistance.
STUDIO COMMUNICATION
Queen City Ballroom communicates via email. Please make sure you have an updated email address on file.
GENERAL LIABILITY
Ballroom dancing, like any other physical activity, may involve a risk of injury. Queen City Ballroom makes every effort to offer its programs in the safest manner possible, and we ask students to participate only in programs that are suitable for his/her ability, skill level, and personal safety.
