Lindy Hop's origin dates back to the 1920's, and traces it's roots to the ballrooms of Harlem.

It was a time of big bands, dance marathons, dancing on the sidewalk, zoot suits, and the hottest dance moves. People were fascinated with this fluid new dance to swing music which incorporated African influences and jazz rhythms into the standard European social dance framework.

Over the years, Lindy Hop has evolved and has been influenced by other dance styles and changes in popular music, including Jazz, Big Band Swing, Jump Blues, Boogie Woogie, ’50s Rock ’n’ Roll, R&B and even some popular contemporary tunes.

It experienced a revival in the 1980's, and today Lindy Hop lives on through the

support of online communities and local cultures and teachers.
